Physical Education Philosophy

The philosophy of our Physical Education program at HPES is to provide students of all abilities with an opportunity to learn the importance, as well as the enjoyment, of a physically active lifestyle. Our goal is to encourage the physical, mental and social growth of each student in our program so they can be “lifetime movers.” A wide range of activities will be presented throughout the year that will teach principles and help promote a lifetime of health and fitness.

Program

Hyde Park Elementary school's Physical Education program is committed to a K-6 progression of Learning:
  • self-discipline
  • honesty
  • effort
  • teamwork
  • cooperation
  • responsibility
  • Positive work ethic

Another goal of the HPES Physical Education program is to introduce activities that students will enjoy and want to continue to participate in throughout her/his lifetime.

Our program will introduce K-6 students to a fitness based curriculum, which is designed to develop life skills through movements and skills learning.

Emphasis is on:
  • cooperation
  • effective communication
  • social interaction
  • making responsible choices
  • self-expression
  • personal challenges
  • enjoyment

It is a participation program in which students explore lifelong physical activity, as well as team and individual movement activities. Students are expected to dress appropriately for physical activity, participate daily, and demonstrate responsible personal social behaviors. Assessments are performance based.

The focus of our k-2 grades program is based on a movement progression. (space and body awareness) The grades 3-6 program is focusing on a skill oriented progression.
